"Geopolitics Crystal Ball: One Year on from Election Day - What is the Trump Doctrine for Global Stability?"

The Industry Roundtable Breakfast will bring together a diverse group of senior executives from national and international energy companies visiting Abu Dhabi for ADIPEC 2017 to discuss and debate the following theme:

Middle Eastern regional constellations are under severe stress. The end of the Pax America, US president Trump’s engagement, combined with the continuing negative effects of the Arab Spring, have resulted not only in increased political instability in the GCC region but also to a re-alignment of Arab States. The rise of Russia and China as power players in MENA has changed the operational and political environment for companies. At the same time, inter-Arab competition and the rise of Iran have caused severe shocks to the economic reality.

GCC countries, especially the UAE and Saudi Arabia, are currently reassessing their future, while implementing large-scale economic diversification programs. Geopolitics and economics are again playing a pivotal role for GCC governments, NOCs and IOCs, while security challenges on all sides are popping up. Stability is key for investors, operators and suppliers; the need for geopolitical scenarios has become a reality.

The current roundtable will address several main developments such as:

  1. Energy investments & privatizations
  2. Energy infrastructure resilience
  3. New regional alliances (Russia + Asia, etc.)
